La Fortuna’s Best-Kept Secret: How to Enjoy The Springs Resort on a Budget
A Taste of Luxury Without the High Price Tag
I recently treated myself to a weekend at The Springs Resort & Spa in La Fortuna—arguably one of Costa Rica’s most iconic luxury retreats. Though staying overnight can be a splurge, I discovered a smarter way to soak up the resort’s magic: the two-day pass.
For approximately $130, I had full access to the resort’s tranquil hot springs, next-level spa facilities, and unforgettable dining—all while basking in breathtaking views of the Arenal Volcano.
Why The Springs at La Fortuna is a Must-Visit
From the moment you step onto the property, you’re surrounded by lush jungle landscapes, architecturally stunning pools, and dramatic volcano views. The resort cascades down multiple levels, offering a variety of thermal pools in different temperatures, so you can find your sweet spot.
A Perfectly Curated Environment
With natural wood accents, stone features, the soft sound of trickling water, and ambient lighting, The Springs radiates tranquility. Undeniably romantic, yes—but don’t let that stop you from romancing yourself. Better yet, gather your girls and turn it into a luxury daycation. I found myself wondering why it had taken me so long to visit—this is definitely the break I needed from the jungle. The Springs is a sanctuary of rest and beauty.
The Spa: A Next-Level Relaxation Experience
The spa at The Springs is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Even before your treatment begins, you’re already relaxed—thanks to panoramic volcano views and the grounding energy of the space.
I booked the Volcanic Health Package, which included a volcanic clay facial and a mud massage using clay harvested right on the property. Let me be clear—this was hands down the best body treatment I’ve ever received. My therapist, Dyanna, was phenomenal. The volcanic minerals left my skin feeling brand new: soft, luminous, and shea butter smooth.
Other Spa Amenities Include:
✔ Steam room
✔ Dry sauna
✔ Massages, facials, and body treatments (available at an extra cost)
The Two-Day Pass: A Smart Way to Indulge
For $130, the two-day pass includes:
✅ Unlimited access to all hot springs and pools (8 AM - 10 PM)
✅ Access to all resort restaurants
✅ Use of the spa facilities, sauna, and steam room (treatments available at an extra cost)
Considering that overnight stays often start around $1500 per night, this pass is a steal for anyone craving a luxury moment without the overnight commitment.
Who is this pass ideal for?
• Travelers looking for indulgence without the hotel price
• Groups of friends planning a bougie-but-budget-friendly getaway
• Solo travelers and couples wanting a peaceful escape without splurging on a room
If you’re visiting La Fortuna, this is hands-down one of the best ways to enjoy the resort’s amenities without breaking the bank.
Fine Dining in the Jungle: A Culinary Affair at The Springs
Las Ventanas, fine-dining with majestic views @ The Springs
One of the highlights of my visit was the exceptional food. Dinner at Las Ventanas was a culinary moment—fresh, innovative, and gorgeously plated.
Las Ventanas was the gastronomy experience I had been craving. I thought, “Is this the Nobu of Costa Rica?” It was elegant and refined. The hospitality was warm and intuitive, and the cocktails were literal works of art.
The sommelier—affectionately called “Gordo” by the waitstaff—had a jovial, hearty presence. His childlike enthusiasm when describing the night’s specials was infectious. When he recommended a smoky whiskey cocktail, I had to oblige. Honestly, I feel like he would’ve been disappointed if I had ordered anything else.
Some of my favorite dishes:
⭐ Sea bass carpaccio topped with crispy leeks, dried dill, and garlic chips—vibrant, zesty, unforgettable.
⭐ Shrimp tempura—light, golden, and seasoned to perfection.
⭐ A cheese and cured meat starter that completely surprised me. I’m not even a big meat eater, but the paper-thin salted ham, nutty Manchego, and crusty sourdough made for an elevated ham-and-cheese moment.
And let’s not forget the cocktails. One whiskey cocktail arrived cloaked in dramatic smoke—yes, a whole razzle-dazzle performance. I live for the drama, darling!
Between the culinary artistry, warm service, and stunning backdrop, dining at The Springs was an experience in itself.
Should You Splurge on an Overnight Stay?
While the two-day pass offers incredible value, staying overnight at The Springs might be worth the splurge for special occasions like:
✔ Birthdays
✔ Honeymoons
✔ Baecations
Overnight guests enjoy exclusive perks, extended access, and the ease of waking up in paradise. If your budget allows, it’s certainly a memorable way to elevate your experience.
A Quick Note on Narrative & Nuance
During my visit, I had a candid conversation with one of the resort’s nail technicians that left me with a lot to reflect on. When I mentioned that I live in Limón—specifically in Puerto Viejo—she seemed surprised. Her first reaction was to ask if it was dangerous. She went on to say she’d seen stories in the news about rising crime and violence in Limón, and mentioned that more people from the area were moving into La Fortuna, which she felt was adding to the increase in crime.
Now, I want to tread lightly here—but I also feel the need to speak on this. Limón, particularly Puerto Viejo, is a place I call home. And while no place is without its issues, the way Limón is portrayed in national media is often deeply skewed—painting a region rich in Afro-Caribbean culture, resilience, and beauty as dangerous or unworthy.
This narrative—rooted in racial and regional bias—does more harm than people realize. It not only erases the warmth, history, and community found in Limón, but also perpetuates internal divisions within the country. The truth is, there’s so much more to the Caribbean coast than headlines can capture. Puerto Viejo is vibrant, healing, spiritual, delicious, alive—and it deserves to be seen in its full complexity.
I share this not to shame the conversation, but to highlight the power we each hold in challenging assumptions and telling fuller stories. Travel has taught me that healing comes not just from hot springs and spa treatments, but from human connection, critical thought, and choosing love over fear.
Final Thoughts: The Perfect Blend of Luxury & Affordability
My time at The Springs was nothing short of magical. I found a way to enjoy its thermal springs, luxury spa treatments, and five-star dining without shelling out for an expensive overnight stay.
So if you’re dreaming of soaking in mineral-rich waters, indulging in fine cuisine, and losing track of time in a place that feels otherworldly—the two-day pass at The Springs might just be your golden ticket.
And a final, slightly indulgent observation: the staff? Let’s just say—visually curated. You’ll feel like you’re walking through a Calvin Klein campaign.
